The island itself is home to a large golf course, a strand, and some bathing areas off its pier, known as Bull Wall. The views are towards Dublin port, and to the ferries coming in from the Irish Sea.
Howth is easily within reach, being about 30 minutes by train from Dublin’s city centre. There are plenty of things to explore: from Howth Castle and demesne, to the fish shops lining the harbour; from yachts amd musicians on the jetty, to a scenic walk along the cliffs of Howth head. Close by is the island of Ireland’s Eye, which can be reached by boats leaving Howth Harbour.
Near the village of Malahide, north of Dublin, can be found the stately Malahide castle and expansive estate. On weekends the grounds are filled with activities, from jogging to quiet strolls, from sports matches to museum visits. The Fry Model Railway museum is located near the castle. Visitors can tour the castle interior or walk through the adjoining botanic gardens.
