GreenwichGreenwich has a strong naval tradition, and was once home to the Royal Naval College, which is now partly the University of Greenwich. There are a number of attractions though that recall bygone oceanfaring days, such as the National Maritime Museum, the Cutty Sark and the Gipsy Moth IV used in the first solo circumnavigation of the world by Sir Francis Chichester in 1967. Greenwhich is of course home to the famous Royal Observatory which sits atop a hill in Greenwhich Park. In 1884 it was decided that 0 degrees longitude would pass through the Observatory and Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) became a standard measure of time. Maritime Greenwich is a World Heritage Site.
