Views along the edge of Santorini’s crater are nothing short of breath taking, and explain why many of Santorini’s white-washed cottages are perched precariously on its edge. The crater is the result of a massive volcanic eruption which blew apart the centre of the island, leaving a massive hole 6km wide, which was subsequently filled with sea water.
